Byon Alverstone M8340-41

Behind the modesty
Behind the simple design, this notebook has great performance. Suitable for you who are not too concerned with style.

When the notebooks today are trying to entice prospective buyers through attractive design, Byon apparently still "keukeuh" put forward a simple and conservative design. This can be seen from their latest notebook, Alverstone M8340-41. Just look at the sexy curve of minimal design and color combination of black and silver are simply impressed.

However, do not underestimate this 14-inch notebook. Behind the simple appearance, Alverstone M8340-41 is a notebook with excellent performance. This is not out of the use of Intel Core i7-620M belonging to upper-class processors today. This processor has a speed of 2.66 GHz, but the Turbo facility allows increased speed up to 3.33 GHz.

Assisted-PC677 2GB DDR3 memory and 640 GB SATA hard drive capacity, this notebook is very satisfactory performance. Even when compared with dual-core Core i7 notebooks we ever tested, Alverstone M8340 recorded the best result in a squeeze test processor work like Sysmark 2007 or encoding video / audio. As for the 3D tests, this notebook appears tolerable thanks to the use of Nvidia GeForce 310M (512MB)-although not yet as good as the Acer Aspire 5943G or Asus NX90.

Facilities provided by the notebook is also fairly complete. For cable-based connections you'll find an HDMI port and eSATA, while the wireless connection there is WiFi and Bluetooth. For both of the wireless facilities, Byon not provide a special button-both must be accessed via the Function button. But everytime we turn on or turn off the function, the information displayed on the screen.

The notebook itself only provides a shortcut button, which is the Power button Mode. This button contains 4 performance profiles as well as battery consumption, the Super Power Saver, Power Saver, Balanced, and Performance. This setting can actually do yourself in the Power Options menu in Windows 7, but the presence of a dedicated key makes the setup process was easy. However, it should be noted that all the settings are determined, so it can not be customized again.

With the price of IDR 10 million, this notebook does not include the operating system. However, Windows users can install themselves easily. Driver CD provided Byon is Auto-install, which will automatically detect what the components that need drivers. When we used to install Windows 7 Ultimate, we only need one click and direct the driver installation process runs about 10 minutes. Very easy.

From the use of, this notebook is also quite comfortable. Actually we were a little hesitant to see the keyboard is the distance between buttons look too tight. But helped the soft and responsive, we can reach the speed of a standard type with ease. Heat arising also maintained. When we perform a test burning for 1 hour, temperatures in the armrest area (which became the most heated area) is only about 31o.
